Meet a LiveIntenter: Joe Meloro, Director of Platform Health
Besides being the human emoji and a star company athlete, Joe Meloro is a great asset to LiveIntent and our platform. He was led here by one of his best friends from college, interviewed and didn’t get the role he initially wanted and was then asked to interview for a different position. Luckily, he got the job and quickly became known as a problem solver and hard-worker at LiveIntent.
In this edition of Meet a LiveIntenter, Joe tells us more about how he saw a big opportunity to make change and went for it.
Has your perception about email changed since working for LiveIntent?
Yes. I didn’t have any ad tech experience after graduating. One of the reasons LiveIntent has been a great opportunity is because of where we fit in the ad tech landscape. As an ad tech beginner, you’re able to dive into otherwise separate systems: SSP, DSP + Ad Server.
LiveIntent enables publishers to leverage email inventory as premium supply, demanding higher CPMs. This is because the subscription process requires users to opt- (or even double-opt) in. The audience is not only real, but passionate about the content. The growth of people-based marketing is also a game changer, and I’m excited to see how that evolves.
How did you get into this industry/business?
I’ve always had an entrepreneurial and technological mindset. I studied business courses during high school and participated in the Future Business Leaders of America club. I studied marketing at Binghamton University, pursuing a joint BA/MBA.
Post-MBA, I searched for a role that would let me leverage my marketing degree and tech interests. LiveIntent was a perfect fit. Yes, I’m a nerd.
You are one of the LiveIntenters who saw a need for a role and created a path for yourself to get there. Can you tell us about this?
Sure! I started at LiveIntent as a Publisher Development Coordinator. I jumped into the role, mastering the publisher side of the business to become a go-to team member.
After a little under a year of being a PDS, I was promoted to Customer Success Manager.
While I enjoyed working face to face with clients, I realized my interests lie elsewhere. I began working on refining the supply-side processes and platform improvements. By taking on various side projects, I was able to further hone my knowledge across the platform. I realized there was a gap in the organization that I would be able to fill. I pitched the idea to my manager, explaining what I imagined for the role and why I was the best fit.
What’s one word you would use to describe your team?
Beast. The Platform Development team is without a doubt the best at LiveIntent. I manage the best: William Lynn, Anthony Kavalis, Dalton Winternheimer, and Katya Maslova.
We are a kick-ass team and get s*** done.
What’s the coolest thing you’re working on right now?
The coolest thing I am working on right now is revamping our media group onboarding process. It’s exciting to work on this project, because it involves cross-team collaboration. By refining this process, we’re also putting our best foot forward with our clients.
What’s the best advice you’ve received?
The best advice I have ever received was from my mom. She always told me that if you are comfortable where you are working and with what you are doing, you aren’t working hard enough.
My mom pushes me to be the best that I can be in every aspect of life and to always give 110%. Her advice has gotten me to where I am today and will get me to an even brighter future.
What’s one of your favorite memories at LiveIntent?
My favorite memory at LiveIntent was being asked to play on the Flag Football team. I played well, we won the game, and then celebrated at a happy hour on the LES. It was after that game/night that I knew LiveIntent was going to be a great place to work. The people and culture are second to none.
What is one fun fact about you?
I went viral on the internet as a human emoji.
