Smartphone owners more likely to read emails than make calls
The recently published 2013 Digital Publisher Report from Adobe is mostly about mobile shopping. However, the prevailing headline that emerged, at least for eConsultancy, is that email is not only the most popular app on smartphones, it is more popular than making actual phone calls!
The survey of 1000 18-54 year olds found that 79% of smartphone owners used their device for email, compared to 78% who use it for making calls. While phone calls remain a close second on smartphones, on tablets, email has a 5% lead over the next most popular activity, playing games.
These findings solidify our stance that email isn’t disappearing, but quite the contrary: it is actually just going everywhere with you.
Is the name “smartphone” soon going to be a misnomer?
